The Organisation Intersex International expresses its solidarity with Christiane VöllingThe Board Members of OII from various countries all over the world wish to express our solidarity with Christiane Völling, an intersexed woman from Germany who is suing a doctor for having surgically assigned her male without her consent.
We find her story very tragic and unfortunately it is typical of the treatment that many intersexed people around the world have
endured. Many intersexed people are lied to and are not only forced to live in bodies which have been altered without their consent but also as a sex which is alien to their own sense of self.
From the beginning, we have opposed not only early surgical sex assignments but the motivation behind such assignments: to forcefully assign all intersexed infants as male or female without any input from the children themselves.
